Patty’s art prints come in seven poster sizes, from a small A4 to a large 70 × 100 cm. The sizes are measured in centimeters, so this guide gives every size in cm and in inches, explains what A4, A2 and A1 mean, and helps you pick the right size and frame for your wall.

What A4, A2 and A1 mean
A4, A2 and A1 are paper sizes from the international A series (ISO 216), which is the standard almost everywhere outside North America. Every A size has the same shape: the long side is about 1.41 times the short side. Each step up doubles the area, so two A2 sheets side by side make one A1.
- A4 poster size: 21 × 29.7 cm, about 8.3 × 11.7 in. The size of a standard sheet of printer paper in Europe.
- A2 poster size: 42 × 59.4 cm, about 16.5 × 23.4 in. Four times an A4.
- A1 poster size: 59.4 × 84.1 cm, about 23.4 × 33.1 in. Eight times an A4.
The 50 × 70 cm and 70 × 100 cm posters have almost the same shape as the A sizes, so they look good together on one wall. 30 × 40 cm is a little wider (3:4), and 61 × 91 cm is a little slimmer (2:3).
How to choose the right size
- Small (A4, 30 × 40 cm): shelves, desks, bathrooms, narrow walls next to a door, or as part of a gallery wall.
- Medium (A2, 50 × 70 cm): bedrooms, hallways and the space above a dresser or a desk.
- Large (A1, 61 × 91 cm, 70 × 100 cm): a statement piece above a sofa or a bed, or a big empty wall.
A common rule of thumb: art above furniture looks balanced when it covers about two thirds of the furniture’s width. Above a 200 cm (79 in) sofa that is roughly 130 cm, for example two 61 × 91 cm prints side by side with a small gap. Before you order, mark the size on the wall with painter’s tape and look at it for a day.
Framed, with a mat, or just the poster?
Every print is made to order on thick matte paper (189 g/m², 0.26 mm). The black and white frames are made from semi-hardwood alder, the oak frame from solid oak. Every framed print has an acrylite front protector and comes with hanging hardware. The mat version adds a smooth white mat board around the artwork for a more gallery-like look.
If you would like to use a frame you already own, measure its inner opening first. Most US frames are made in inch sizes, so a centimeter poster rarely fits one exactly. The closest match is 61 × 91 cm: a 24 × 36 in frame measures 61 × 91.4 cm. A 30 × 40 cm poster is a little smaller than a 12 × 16 in frame (30.5 × 40.6 cm). The A sizes have their own shape, so for them a frame made for A sizes or one of the framed options works best.
What is a standard poster size?
There is no single standard. In the US the most common poster sizes are 18 × 24 in and 24 × 36 in. In Europe, Australia and most other countries posters usually follow the A sizes or 50 × 70 cm. Patty’s prints use the A sizes and centimeter formats, with 61 × 91 cm as the size closest to the US 24 × 36 in.
